Однако как оказалось она стала всего лишь ответом на первопроходца!Первым серийным и доступным обычному покупателю шестицилиндровым мотоциклом стал Benelli 750 Sei. На этот мотоцикл возлагались большие надежды, которым не суждено было сбыться. Инженерам Benelli было поручено сделать мотоцикл с рядной шестеркой, и тем самым убить японских конкурентов напрочь. На тот момент в мире ничего подобного не существовало, и знаменитый Алессандро де Томазо знал кому поручает такое дело. Инженеры фирмы Benelli были большие специалисты по мотоциклетным двигателям, первый мотоцикл с четырехцилиндровым движком был построен аж в 1937 году, хотя это была сугубо гоночный болид.К 1972 году первый шестицилиндровый прототип был готов и представлен публике. Всем бросилось сходства движка Benelli с двигателем Honda CB500, но на два цилиндра больше. Однако Honda исков о плагиате не предъявляла.
